Innovation Week is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to highlight our incredible NATI member companies and the cutting-edge work happening right here in the province with an impressive global reach and significant impact on the economy. Postponed from May, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this virtual version of Innovation Week will showcase the impressive work of NATI members, the immense potential of the technology and innovation sector as a whole, and the inspiring, good-news stories despite challenging times, highlighting opportunities that exists amidst much uncertainty. The Innovation Week 2020 hashtag is #IWNL2020 – be sure to use it when you post online!

How to Register

Register for the sessions you wish to attend here and you will receive a Zoom/Hopin link by email closer to the time of the session.
Cost to attend:
  • NATI Members: No charge to attend. Innovation Week is one of the benefits of membership. If your organization is a member, all employees are invited to attend at no charge.
  • Non NATI Members: $30 per webinar or a discounted rate of $95 when you register for all four sessions.

Innovation Week Launch & Keynote

Monday, October 19, 2020 – 9:30am – 11:00am

Kicking off Innovation Week 2020 will be the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador. Following the Honourable Premier’s address, the launch will feature Keynote Speaker Bethany Downer.

As the first scientist-astronaut candidate from Atlantic Canada, Bethany plans to complete her first commercial suborbital spaceflight within the next 5 to 10 years. Born and raised in St. John’s, Bethany now works around the world in the domain of outreach and communications for space. She currently manages the outreach and press of the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope for the European Space Agency.

Tech Leadership Interactive:
Advocating for the Technology Sector with Federal and Provincial Government Representatives

Tuesday, October 20, 2020 – 11:00am – 12:30pm

Join us for a panel discussion with the Honourable Seamus O’Regan, Federal Minister of Natural Resources, and the Honourable Andrew Parsons, Provincial Minister of Industry, Energy and Technology. We will explore the ongoing impacts of COVID-19 on the province’s technology and innovation sector. Moderated by NATI Board Chair and CEO at ClearRisk, Craig Rowe, will facilitate an engaging discussion among NATI members, representatives from NATI’s CEO Covid-19 task force, and government.

Companies across all sectors have been severely impacted by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, against that backdrop, there is hope. Many local tech sector companies have done something that is baked into their very DNA – they have profoundly pivoted. They have found new ways of operating, developed new products and services, have opened up new markets, and have embraced digital transformation opportunities.

Many of these firms have also leveraged their agile, creative talents to support COVID-19 responses, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and rapid design. Join us for this inspiring panel discussion to learn how a group of local leaders have embraced collaboration through resiliency providing a sense of hope for the future of our province.

A Virtual Networking Event for Post-Secondary Students

Thursday, October 22, 2020 – 9:30am – 11:00am

A strong pipeline of technically skilled workers is needed to fuel the growth of the technology and innovation sector in NL. There are many facets to approach the talent gap and youth play a significant role in preparing our province to fill the jobs we know are coming down the pipe in the next 3-5 years. Join our virtual networking event designed to connect post-secondary students and local technology companies. Students will visit “virtual booths” through the Hopin platform to meet with local company representatives. Member companies will share information on company culture and in-demand skills required. Students will be exposed to a variety of careers within the sector.
